Residential Lighting
At Susan Lake Lighting Design, we have observed a rise in our clients rejecting social media trends and opting instead for curated interiors that reflect their personality. When designing residential lighting, we aim to create schemes that reflect our clients' personal tastes, needs, and usage, and harness the technology that will deliver them.
A growing trend is clients’ desire to have the ability to alter the atmosphere in different rooms, particularly in open-plan, multi-use spaces that are utilised throughout the day and evening. We employ technology that accomplishes this by creating layers of light that can be adjusted to suit various scenes and, by using tunable white LED’s, that adjust the colour temperature of the lights from neutral white to warm white, at different times of day. The result is a fresher feel during the day and a warm, cosy ambience in the evening.
There is also a trend towards an increase in the use of natural materials and the revival of traditional techniques applied in contemporary ways, such as lime plaster. And we can leverage this by highlighting the textures of natural finishes with integrated concealed lighting.
We always design with the environment at the forefront of every project, and aim to reduce energy consumption. The trend towards smart lighting control systems, together with presence detectors in, for example, bathrooms to switch off lights when they are not in use have been key factors in enabling us to achieve this while meeting our clients' needs in providing bespoke solutions that can be switched on manually at the wall, controlled via an app, or a combination of both.
