Build Back Better Awards Celebration

Our Design Director and Founder Susan Lake was honoured to co-host the Build Back Better Awards 2021 with awards founder Ray Molony, broadcast live on Wednesday June 30th.

Congratulations to all the project, product, and initiative winners that have been recognised in the inaugural lighting awards.

The awards reflect a shift in the lighting industry as a whole, this positive change puts wellbeing and sustainability at it’s core. Susan Lake commented on the significance of the awards and the entries and what this means for the industry.

"The awards and the entries reflect a significant change in the lighting industry and I am excited to see how things will progress. Especially the increased development of light fittings for the circular economy. Manufacturers are starting to recognise the importance of recycling light fittings. Up until now very few LED companies offered replacement parts for fittings with integral LED’s at the end of the light's lifespan (normally 50,000 hours) the whole light would have to be thrown away. Now lighting companies are offering replacement parts for fittings so it’s much better financially for clients and for the environment.

The Covid pandemic has been the catalyst for another lighting industry change this is the use of UV lighting to clean surfaces and air. This technology has been around for years predominantly used to clean hospital theatres. We’re seeing several companies developing novel products that use UV technology in different ways to clean air particles and surfaces."

The advancement in technology and shift in outlook sparks exciting times for the lighting industry.
